For a simple ESPHome sensor, you rarely need the most powerful board. The best choice is usually the smallest board that provides the GPIO, wireless connectivity and memory your configuration actually needs.

Simple sensors and compact nodes

The ESP32-C3 Super Mini is a strong fit for temperature sensors, switches, compact monitoring devices and other small Wi-Fi nodes. Its Bluetooth LE support also makes it useful in Home Assistant environments where BLE matters.

General ESPHome projects

The ESP32-WROOM-32 remains an excellent default because of its mature support, larger development-board format and broad compatibility.

Large displays and demanding configurations

Use the ESP32-S3 N16R8 when the project benefits from substantially more flash and PSRAM, especially graphical interfaces and more complex embedded applications.
